Vince Carter recently announced that he will be returning to the NBA once again next season for his 22nd year in the league, and if that means more fire Nike Shox BB4 PEs like this one, we hope he never hangs it up. After showing off a black pair last week, Vinsanity is back once again with a white version of his unofficial signature BB4 sneaker equipped with a nod to his first pro team, the Toronto Raptors. During his time in the North, the Raptors sported one of the most memorable uniforms in the history of the Association and this clean new PE borrows that time period’s beloved color scheme as well as a graphic that resembles a ferocious raptor’s claw marks. While that last pair opted for its rips to be adorned in a shimmering silver, this new variety tones things down a touch with a more neutral purple shade.
As Vince Carter plays out his 21st NBA season with the Atlanta Hawks he’s sported a number of unique Nike Shox BB4 PEs, the latest of which is this striking “Raptors” colorway. A model that Carter is forever intertwined with — they were on his feet when he lept over 7’1 Frederic Weis for an iconic death-defying dunk in the 2000 Olympics — this new pair pays homage to his days as a freakishly athletic youngster with the Toronto Raptors in the ’90s/early ’00s. Drawing from the team’s uniforms of that time period, the shoes accent their black base with Raptors-colored purple, red, and silver accents. For an extra-special touch, they also feature shimmering jagged raptor claw embellishments. With rumors swirling that this may be Vinsanity’s final season
Nike brought back the iconic Shox BB4 at the start of Carter’s 21st NBA season and he has laced up a number of special edition colorways throughout the year. His recent run of Raptors-themed sneakers, as well as a carolina blue rendition, are among the best we’ve seen.
Unfortunately, Nike has not announced any plans to release any of these sneakers. That said, V.C. is already hinting at returning for one more season, which would be a perfect opportunity for Nike to roll out some exclusive colorways of the Shox BB4.
Nike is dropping a special colorway of the Air Max 180 exclusively in Europe to celebrate Air Max Day 2019. The pair takes inspiration from the nightlife in Berlin that began to blossom in the ’90s following the fall of the Berlin Wall in the late ’80s.
“Berlin has always been a very liberal place, or even something like a fantasy land. West Berlin felt like an enclave until the wall came down, like a place with its own rules. And after the wall came down, the means of freedom in both parts of the city translated into a creative anything goes mentality. A perfect breeding ground for subcultures, with Techno being one of the most important and steady ones,” said members of Berlin’s Keinemusik collective in an official press release.
The original release of the Air Max 180 in 1991 coincided with Berlin’s cultural shift and has remained a popular footwear option in the German city ever since. The “Berlin” Air Max 180 sports a grey mesh and leather upper inspired by the city’s architecture. Neon yellow and pink hits on the tongue, heel, and Air Max unit are a nod to the colorful lights seen in clubs. A translucent outsole reveals the words “Unity” and “Freedom” on the right and left foot, respectively.
